  • Basic introductory course that exposes students to a variety of FCS topics.
  • Students are exposed to multiple units covering a variety of foods and the nutrients that are needed by the human body for those foods.
  • Students learn how to communicate, problem solve, resolve conflicts, and build relationships with a variety of groups including peers, friends, professionals, and family members.
  • Students learn about a variety of skills they will need to be able to perform as adults both in college and beyond.
  • Students learn a variety of design elements and principles that will prepare them for creating and designing their own homes and/or businesses in the future.
  • Freshman students are introduced to each of the areas of family and consumer sciences and complete student led projects in each area.
  • Students are prepared for pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting for their future lifestyle.
  • Students learn the importance of building strong families through a variety of parent techniques and skills.
  • Students expand their knowledge and skills in regards to family and consumer sciences through project based learning opportunities.
  • Students are prepared for responsibilities and skills needed to work in the field of early childhood education and given hands on experience at the school’s preschool classroom.

The information provided gives members full access to all the materials they will need to have success in FCCLA and our activities.

Membership Details

Cost: Total dues for the year are $35. This includes a chapter T-shirt as well as access to all chapter activities for little to no cost. If you participate in community service, you could pay nearly no dues!


Benefits: As a member, you have access to many informative and fun conferences as well as any chapter activity in and outside of our community!

Chapter Leadership

The following is our chapter officers, their responsibilities, career goals, and FCCLA service. All officers are also required to utalize the shared group Canva folder and Google Drive.

Responsibilities are to prepare meeting agendas, run all meetings, update point system, plan officer retreat, oversee all other officers, delegate at SLC, create new officer list, design t-shirts, and update chapter handbook.

Brooklyn Eckert

President

Responsibilities are to develop ice breakers for meetings, maintain the hall of fame and quarterly STAR member, maintain chapter scholarship, maintain chapter award and state degree, develop the new member award and outstanding 7th grader award, coordinate ribbon projects, create the program of work, prepare itineraries, monthly calendar, maintain chapter suggestion box, plan the FCCLA Awards Banquet, and update FCCLA events on the marquee.

Responsibilities are to maintain bulletin boards, plan FCCLA Fun Night, plan the Fall Recruitment Party, plan the Spring Recruitment Party, plan the Member Holiday Party, create membership campaigns, create Google Form surveys, actively recruit new members, distribute and collect affiliation forms.

Responsibilities are to brainstorm service projects, plan service projects, create work schedules for all service activities, publicize all service projects, send reminders about service projects, contact other organizations for partnerships, supervise all school/community service events, document service activities, and encourage participation in District 9 Service Activity.

Lily Ann Kemnitz

Community Service

Coordinator

Responsibilities are to take photographs of all FCCLA activities and events, maintain all social media platforms, encourage followers on social media platforms, submit chapter of the month, adviser of the month, and Nebraska member of the month, write articles for all chapter activities and submit to the local newspaper The Spencer Advocate and the school newspaper The Spartan Spotlight, and create a monthly flyer for each month.

Sabrina Ziebro

Public Relations

Future Career Goals: To attend the University of Kearney Nebraska to major in Journalism. Then, will plan to work in the writing/publishing field.

Responsibilities are to perform all duties of your selected position on the district officer team, attend all district meetings/events, attend district officer training at SLC, organize and plan Parent’s Night, assist with your part in District STAR (especially when hosting), coordinate and plan STAR workdays, schedule STAR practices to classes, and utilize STAR Event Project Deadline Timeline for all members.

Responsibilities are to announce meetings, keep accurate meeting minutes, create a sheet for roll call at each meeting and event, create thank yous for partners and donors, send reminders to officers/members through SeeSaw, send an email to all members with upcoming news, remind other officers of unfinished business, and create locker tags for members’ lockers.

Katelyn Fletcher

Secretary

Future Career Goals: To attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney majoring in pre-veterinary medicine. Career goal is to then work as a zookeeper at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. Will possibly attend vet school in the future to expand her career.

Future Career Goals: To attend the University of South Dakota for elementary education then go on to teach at a rural South Dakota school.

Responsibilities are to plan national programs and familiarize themselves with all 8 national program projects, produce Power of One materials and require for all officers, encourage 7th graders to participate in Power of One, familiarize themselves with each of the 8 purposes of FCCLA, apply for the State and National National Program Awards, lead chapter participation in each of the three State Peer Education Team Program Projects, plan National FCCLA Week, create and implement a Buddy System with officers and younger students, and create visuals with National Program info/updates.

National Programs

Responsibilities are to oversee all chapter financial decisions, keep accurate financial records, turn in receipts and deposits to the school office, obtain chapter balance, compare chapter balance to officer balance on spreadsheet, prepare work schedules, promotions, collect member money, and get money bag as needed for all chapter fundraisers, collect membership dues and post reminders, seek funding sources for FCCLA sponsorships, and report current financial balance at all chapter and officer meetings.

Activities

The following is a calendar with all chapter meetings, membership events, service activities, fundraisers, STAR events (workdays and competitions), and other Boyd County chapter activities.

  • Have 60% of eligible members participate in STAR
  • Have all 7th grader members participate in a National Program
  • Have all members fundraise the minimum amount required

National Programs

  • Power of One
    • All 7th grade members complete this in order to attend state. This is also an officer requirement.
  • Community Service
    • Unite to Save Lives. Officer Katelyn Fletcher headed this project with tourniquet demonstrations for students 7-12th, CPR and AED training for Senior students, and hosted a blood drive for community members!
    • Gingerbread houses with the residents of the Butte Senior Living Center.
    • Serving at the Lynch and Spencer Alumni Banquets in the summer.
    • Voulenteering to help at the Spencer Community Foundation Quarter Auction and Spencer Rescue Unit BBQ.
    • Help pack bags for our districts backpack program, Boyd County Snack Packs.
  • Families First
    • Promotion of winter safety, family statistics posted on popcorn bags, donuts with family members at school, and the promotion of families cooking together at home!
  • Student Body
    • Chapter officers all worked together to create inspirational quotes. These were used to hang up in bathrooms around our school to spread positivity.
    • Chapter officer Trina Wetzel also created posters with positive quotes that were available for students to take.
  • State Peer Education Outreach Project: Financial Fitness
    • FCCLA members taught 7th graders money management through the units of Financial Fitness. These students were also given activities that related to these topics and gave them tips on proper money management.

Meetings

  • Chapter Meetings
    • Held each month and meeting minutes are recorded by our secretary then sent out to all members, including the ones who missed the meeting. These meetings are used to communicate to all members about chapter activities.
  • Officer Meetings
    • Held each month prior to the chapter meeting. Minutes are also recorded and sent to officers. This is where the officers create plans for chapter events.

Fundraisers

  • Cow Pie Bingo
    • This is a fundraiser our National Qualifiers hold each participating year for covering the expenses of NLC after donations from the community and Boyd County School District.
  • Popcorn
    • In the fall, our chapter sold popcorn as our seasonal fundraiser. WIth each member aiming towards the minimum requirement of 12 bags, we earned $3,066 and overall had a great turnout!
  • Strawberries
    • Our spring fundraiser will be selling strawberries! Each member is required to sell 6 flats as their minimum requirement.
